Under normal circumstances dental sedation is not offered for routine dental appointments such as dental cleanings or checkups, however, we may be able to offer it to patients suffering with extreme anxiety.
Who might benefit from sedation for dentistry?
Dental sedation could be considered if you suffer from any of the issues on the list below:
- General anxiety disorder
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
- Resistance to local anesthetic
In cases such as these dental sedation can help patients to undergo the dental treatment they need. For example, dental sedation can help patients get through anything from extractions to root canals with a minimum amount of stress.
Having said that, dental sedation is usually not offered for routine dental care such as regular dental cleanings or x-rays . For those who suffer from extreme anxiety, however, sedation may be considered during those procedures.
